description

Welcome to the great outdoors of Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County – where memories are made, naturally! Located only 3 hours from D.C. at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 64, the Rockbridge Area provides the perfect balance of outdoor recreation and easy accessibility.

With over 58,000 acres of National Forest and over 20,000 acres of state-managed land, the Rockbridge Area offers numerous outdoor recreational activities. Enjoy kayaking through Goshen Pass, bicycling along the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Or, take it easy with a stroll through Rockbridge Vineyard and Lexington Valley Vineyard, a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a memorable visit to the Natural Bridge of Virginia and the Virginia Safari Park.

More importantly, here in the Rockbridge Area you can enjoy a variety of fishing options. Smallmouth bass, channel cat and bluegill are found in the Maury River and largemouth bass and flat-head catfish are found in the James River. Head to Lake Robertson with the entire family for some of the best redear sunfish and bluegill fishing around. Or for more of a challenge, hike into the mountains in search of native brook trout in the many pristine creeks and streams.

Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County are also steeped in a rich cultural history. Follow in the footsteps of Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson who made Lexington their home. Travel along the Wilderness Road and learn about the heritage migration route of the Scots-Irish who settled the Shenandoah Valley. Or, trace the Hunter’s Raid Civil War route to the campus of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington and under the Natural Bridge of Virginia.

Discover a place that’s a moving experience, even when you’re sitting still. Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County.
